Five Senses

NCERT anchor: NCERT Looking Around Class 1 — Theme: My Body (seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, touching)

• Use five senses: see, hear, smell, taste, touch.
• Match each sense to body part: eyes, ears, nose, tongue, skin.
• Senses keep us safe — smell smoke, see cars, hear bell.

1. See (eyes)

Level 1 (Verbal): Eyes see colours, books, friends on playground.

Level 2 (Symbolic): See → eyes → brain understands picture.

2. Hear (ears)

Verbal: Ears hear tabla, teacher, dog bark.

Visual: Ear icon + bell.

3. Smell, taste, touch

Verbal: Nose smells jasmine and samosa; tongue tastes sweet mango; skin feels hot/cold/rough/smooth.

Market visit with Amma — using all senses

Step 1 — **See** red apples and green mangoes (eyes).
Step 2 — **Smell** fresh coriander (nose).
Step 3 — **Touch** rough coconut shell carefully (skin).
Step 4 — **Taste** small piece of jaggery (tongue); **hear** vendor call (ears).
Answer: all five senses used safely with adult.
