Man-made materials are created by people, often in factories, instead of coming directly from nature.
Plastic, glass, nylon, and paper are common man-made materials.
Some man-made materials start from natural things — paper is made from wood pulp, glass is made from sand.
Man-made materials can be designed to be strong, waterproof, or shaped in special ways.

Level 1 — Core idea

Verbal: A plastic bottle did not grow on a tree — it was made by melting and shaping plastic in a factory.

Symbolic: Man-made material = raw material + human process (factory/machine) -> new material.

Visual: Sand goes into a hot furnace and comes out as clear glass — a man-made transformation.

Level 2 — Going deeper

Even though paper and glass start from natural things (wood, sand), the process that makes them is done by people, so we call the final material man-made.

Step 1 — Glass starts from sand.
Step 2 — Sand must be heated at very high temperatures by people to become glass.

Where does paper come from?

Step 1 — Wood pulp is taken from trees.
Step 2 — Factories process the pulp into sheets of paper.
Answer: **Paper is man-made from wood pulp.**
